Laser Hair Regrowth Methods
Laser regrowth methods are one of the newest solutions for those who are losing their hair and
wish to regrow it. The theory behind the method is that through the stimulation that is provided by the
laser, hair growth will be encouraged and new hair will grow back to replace what has been lost.
Although there is some controversy over the effectiveness of these treatments, the overall
theory is based on solid scientific principles involving the way the hair follicles grow and are nourished.
When the hair follicles become undernourished, the end result is the hair starts to thin and eventually just
falls out.
Laser therapy can work to stimulate the skin and the hair follicles within the scalp, which
can increase blood circulation and thus better nourish the hair follicles. The end result is that follicles
which had previously gone dormant can once again thrive and begin to produce hair naturally. Although the
technique has been used under a wide variety of hair loss circumstances, it seems to be most effective on
hair that has been recently lost. If a person has been bald for five years or more, there seems to be less of
a chance of success.
Laser Options
Most people who experience good success with laser hair regrowth therapy work with a therapist
who specializes in the technique. Although there are home units available, often referred to as "laser
combs," these cannot provide the same kind of intense laser therapy that clinical laser equipment can
provide. These home laser devices are often utilized by those who have engaged in hair transplant surgery, as
a way to promote healing.
How Does Laser Therapy Work?
Light is the principle behind laser hair regrowth therapy. The pure red light that is produced
by the lasers is the correct frequency to help stimulate the hair follicles, thus encouraging the growth of
new hair. When the supply of blood to the scalp is increased, the hair follicles will have more nutrients
available to them, which will in turn increase cell metabolism. The end result of this stimulation is thicker
and stronger hair, and even the regrowth of hair from follicles that have previously stopped their hair
production. The process is safe, non-invasive, and is not painful. However, the cost of laser therapy tends
to be higher than for many other forms of hair restoration, because multiple sessions are required in order
to achieve results.
The Effectiveness of Laser Hair Regrowth Therapy
Just as with many hair restoration methods, results are somewhat mixed with laser therapy.
Some men experience a reduction in the loss of their natural hair once they start using laser therapy. In
some cases, especially if the baldness has taken place less than five years previously, hair regrowth can be
achieved. Laser therapy can also be effective when combined with other hair restoration methods. One of the
advantages of using laser hair regrowth therapy is that there isn't the potential for side effects. When a
person uses topical creams or takes prescription medications, there is always the chance of side effects to
the product, which is not the case with laser therapy.
